We had scheduled to leave on Friday but because of the weather we stayed at Ioannina for two more days. When we woke up in the morning of the second day the weather was stormy…fortunately the storm lasted only two hours and when the sun shined again, we decided to leave.
We followed the road to Kastoria. The route is easygoing with very good turns and good road surface. After we passed the municipality of Mastorochoria and before the village Eptachori (3,5 km) we saw a sign with left direction to Kastoria, which was taking us out of the main road. We stopped to check the maps which showed that this road was at many points dirt road. Fortunately, at that moment, a local motorcyclist was passing by…so we stopped him to ask which was the better way to follow. He recommended us to follow the way that the sign showed. The road is very good and there is a lot of natural beauty!
So…we followed it! This road is full of turns and stop at the village Nestorio…famous for the river party that takes place every year there. From Nestorio to Kastoria the way is really good.
As soon as we arrived at Kastoria we were impressed by the beautiful landscape. We took some pictures there and then we stopped by the lake to drink a coffee. As the time was passing, we realized that the weather was getting worse and we thought that it would be a good idea to leave soon. So we left…with destination to Edessa. We followed the way to Klisoura, we passed from Lechovo and at the crossroad that leads to Amintaio, we turned right and we continued having at our right side the lake of Vegoriti. The rain was coming behind us and far in front of us we were watching lightings…in front and behind us it was raining.
When we arrived at Edessa, we went straight away to the famous waterfall…as we hadn’t too much time (because of the rain). The waterfall is extraordinary!!! The topology gives you the ability to be behind the dropping water – without any danger -. After we took some pictures we decided to leave…but we were not as lucky as we hopped to be. As soon as we left from Edessa it started raining…and the rain followed us for 90 km…until we arrived at Thessaloniki.
So when we arrived at Thessaloniki we were all wet!!! There we met Christos, the other member of our club and we continued all together our tour. Thessaloniki was the base for our next local routes.
