The 25th of March (national Greek holiday) was a good opportunity to program a trip enough kilometers away from Athens. We left from Athens Thursday noon - eve 25th - and passed the first night at Ioannina (our usual visit!). The next morning we decided to visit the unique Papιgo. We had a new enter in our club! Our friend Takis, with BMW GS1150, came from a village of region of Preveza. He entered our members’ list... Takis welcome!!!
The appointment given around 11.00 and we followed the way for Konitsa. A few kilometers after the village Kalpaki, we turned right leading to Aristi. Our first destination was the beautiful bridge of Voidomatis, that is find after Aristi and before you start “climbing” the road for Papigo. The landscape was astonishing! We took some photos and continued for Papigo. As we have also said in our previous report, it is a beautiful traditional village. All the houses, the shops but also the church built with a common, for the area, stoned-technique. We sat at a traditional kafeneio (coffee shop); enjoying the breathtaking icons in front of us… mountains full of snow rising above the village!!!
The company was very good and the small talking made us forget the time... It was late. Unfortunately, we could not follow our plan to visit Vikos gorge. (They informed us that there is a new asphalt road connecting Aristi with Village Monodendri, which did not exist previously).
The first raindrops started to fall. Under instructions of our friend Ploumisti, we visited Kolimpithres that are finding between Big and Small Papιgo. It is a small river, in a part of that have made stone dams that allocate in their base openings. Older, they closed this openings so that are created small swimming-pools!!!... Do not miss that part, it is not far away. We could not stay for a long time, as it would be dark soon. We returned to Ioannina….
Although for us this region is familiar, once more we were impressed with the unique beauty of it!!!
