The 1st day of May we decided to leave for a while from Athens.
The weather was excellent…the temperature over 20°C…and we couldn’t resist to the idea of leaving Athens.
Time of departure…09:30p.m, destination……unknown!!!! Until the moment we turned on the engines, we haven’t discussed anything for our destination. After few minutes we decided to follow the route to Epidavros- Galatas- Ermioni- Kosta- Portocheli. We chose to start our trips to Peloponnesus from the north – west side, which is closer to Athens. Total distance of this route…430 km. Up to Loutraki we travelled in national road, we passed the old bridge of Isthmos and at the 1st light we met, we turned left to Epidavros. From there the road is provincial but in very good condition……with nice turns and beautiful landscape. After Epidavros the road started to be narrower and with more turns!!! After Galatas the road became even narrower and at many points the road surface was destroyed. From Ermioni to Portocheli the road is improved, there is no potholes but is still narrow with turns. To the biggest part the route to Portocheli is by the sea and after Portocheli you pass through mountains.
We suggest you to visit the beach of new Epidavros…there are few restaurants and cafe where you can enjoy your coffee with view to a small graphic port. Galatas is also a beautiful village from where you can take the ferry boat and go to Porous, which is across. Porous is a very picturesque small island and it’s worth it to visit it, if you are at Galatas.
At Ermioni the only thing that is good to see it’s the small port. After Ermioni and before our return to Athens, we drank our evening coffee at Portocheli!
We suggest this one-day tour as it is very close to Athens and at the same time is very beautiful for the friends of motorcycles!
