Sunday 13 November: The last day of the annual pan Hellenic meeting of members and friends of our club. It wasn’t possible not to take advantage of the opportunity and make our last drive all together! We decided to visit the greater area of Messini and especially the area of Pilos, Methoni and Koroni. In the past, some of us, have visited this area but some other members hadn’t. So, it was very good opportunity to travel, for the first time, with our new member Panagiotis, with the Yamaha Fazer 600 and in this way welcome him to our company!
We started at 12:00 with destination the beautiful Pilos, which is about 40 Km from the place we stayed (area Abramiou). The route is very pleasant with very nice windings that keep your interest and make you not to be bored.
Shortly before Pilos, we turned right, to visit the shipwreck which lies in Gialova and it is about 4 Km from the exact point.
We stopped for few minutes to take some pictures and enjoy the shipwreck, which is too near to the beach. After these minutes of pleasure we took again the road to Pilos, the town of king Nestor. We stopped at the beautiful, picturesque small port; the entire village was mirrored in the sea. There we drank a coffee in one of the numerous cafeterias that are there and we enjoyed the great view.
Time was passing by so quickly and the weather was with our side! We decided to visit Methoni, which is about 20 Km from Pilos. So we left behind us king Nestor’s castle and we continued our trip. The route was the same comfortable; after some time we arrived at the village of Methoni which, due to the time of our arrival, seemed like a desert village! We went straight ahead to the very famous castle of Methoni. Every time that we are visiting this castle we find something new! This time we moved to the left and we arrived at the entrance of the castle which is pictured in most of the post–cards. In fact it is incredible with spectacular view. From this side of the castle you can see the island of Sapienza which lies across.
Our next stop was the picturesque town of Koroni. It’s only 25 Km away from Methoni. There are two optional ways to approach Koroni. The first one is through the village Basilitsi and the second one is through the villages Xrusokelaria – Xarokopio; but we suggest you to take the first one, which is more easygoing.
About 16:00 p.m. we were at the beautiful port of Koroni. Most of the shops were closed, so we searched for a restaurant at the town’s corniche. Finally we found a restaurant next to the high school. We stopped there and enjoyed the food.
We knew that this lunch meant the end of our meeting, as many of us, had to return to Athens. We discussed our impressions and we made a promise to meet again all together in our next meeting!
Unfortunately we didn’t have time to visit the Venetian castle, which is very interesting. But the most important for us was the fact that we had the opportunity to make this trip all together, eight members of our club!
