Sightseeing map

The 4th day of our club’s tour found us at Athanassios Diakos. We wake up early in the morning for 2 reasons: the first was the long and tedious way up to the camping of Monolithi, near the village Kanali of Preveza. The second and more important reason was our need to enjoy our morning coffee in the square of the village, under huge trees, drinking water from the springs that are found around them…
Shortly, we got started for Karpenisi via Lamia. We asked some locals and they told us that there is another way via Artotina, with which you save some kilometres, but the road is not good and in some points it may be destroyed due to last days’ rainfalls. Therefore we choose to continue for the national road passing the amazing turns of Bralos (all motorcyclers' favourite passing…), to pass from the city of Lamia and to direct straight to Karpenisi. The road is relatively good and comfortable, if you exclude the point of Timfristos in which you will find repeated uphill tight bends which lead us to 1000 or more meters up.
Before Timfristos we found the village of Agios Georgios. The characteristic point is the fighting plane that is found in the square of the village with a monument that portrays an ancient warrior. In order to continue from Karpenisi, you have the choice to select between two routes. We suggest taking the one that goes downhill and passes through a tunnel…
The village of Karpenisi is really amazing. Before our visit, we believed that in summertime it would not elect the beauty that offers to the visitor in wintry period, at which it constitutes one of the most visited winter resorts. Immediately we realised that we were wrong! We stopped in the central square of Karpenisi and we met an old-friend, Panos. We had a coffee together and we asked him to give us some information for the next part of our tour.
At first, we had in mind to reach Amfilohia via the town of Agrinio. Panos suggested going via the artificial lake of Kremasta and the bridge of Tatarna, as the road is better and shorter than to go via Agrinio which we realised that was not mentioned in our map.. Thus, therefore, we decided to follow his advice…
Taking the road for Agrinio, we turned at Kerasohori interjection and then passed from the villages Krestna and Loggitsi. We cannot say that the street was the best, but was the best possible choice. Despite the tedious way and the heat, we stopped enjoying the magnificent view of the artificial lake of Kremasta. We took some pictures at the bridge of Tatarna and followed the signs for Amfilohia and Arta, via the village Triklino.
We met the national road Amfilohia-Arta a little outside of Amfilohia, we turned left direct to the square of the city, in the node for Lefkada. We stopped for food and rest at one of the many taverns that you will find at the coastal line of Amfilohia.
After Amfilohia next stop would be the village of Vonitsa. It is a traditional village that is well-known from that its castle. If you drive in this region, we believe that you must visit Vonitsa.
After Vonitsa, our stop for the overnight stay, the camping of Monolithi, is very close. We had the occasion to pass also from the underwater tunnel of Aktion, which from what we learned is located under the seabed of sea…
